Dermond Thomas is currently serving in his third term as a Trustee in the Village of Valley Stream. He is a corporate lawyer and received his JD from Columbia Law School. Mr. Thomas also holds a BA in Economics from Amherst College, and Executive Education Certificates from Harvard Law School and the Wharton School. Mr. Thomas currently serves as a baseball coach in the Valley Stream Little League and is in his first term as a board member for The Thacher School in Ojai, CA. He is the proud recipient of several citations and awards, including the “Commitment to Excellence” Award granted by Valley Stream Presbyterian Church. Mr. Thomas is currently married to his amazing wife, Kimberly L. Thomas, and is a proud father of two children, Olivia and Cole.
Mr. Thomas enjoys participating in recreational sports activities, including martial arts, golf, softball, bowling and biking. He is also an avid moviegoer and performing arts enthusiast.
As a Trustee, Mr. Thomas’ main goals have been to foster good and transparent government, maintain the integrity of the Village, cultivate new ways to use Village resources to enhance the lives of Village residents, and facilitate the use of Village resources to improve recreational programming for Village residents. His pursuit of these goals has resulted in many improvements in the Village, including an expansion of the Optimum Wi-Fi Network throughout the Village, construction of new and improved family bathrooms at the pool, an increase in resident parking spots at the Valley Stream LIRR station, improved street signage on Rockaway Ave., more family-friendly policies relating to resident usage of parks and facilities, quality of life improvements for Village residents, expanded opportunities for youth groups to visit Village facilities and learn about government, additional public safety efforts to improve traffic conditions at Valley Stream schools, and the anticipated expansion of senior housing in the Village. If given the opportunity to continue to serve, Mr. Thomas would like to further these goals while adopting new efforts to expand communication between the Village and its residents.
